Brakes Brakes

Bicycle Brakes Parts

The bicycle disc brakes system and other brake systems are used to slow down or stop a bicycle’s motion.  There are several types of brake systems used, with the three primary brakes in use today are: rim brakes, disc brakes and drum brakes.  Bicycle Brake calipers are used to convert kinetic energy into thermal energy (heat) by friction between two surfaces, usually pads and rim/ disc rotor.

With current technology the three common brake systems are used in the following manner:

Rim bicycle brake calipers are primarily used on road and BMX bikes, but are still found on some mountain bikes.  Rim brakes are found in the following design styles: caliper, cantilever, V-brake, Roller cam or side-pull brake systems.

Bicycle Disc Brakes are primarily found on Mountain bikes.

Drum brakes are used on adult cruiser bikes and most juvenile and children’s bicycles. Browse through our bicycle brakes parts today!
